Intel Says No to Windows Vista

The word is out ... Intel is not going to upgrade to Microsoft's Windows Vista. That is like GM saying its not going to use Exxon gasoline(Come to think of it, that is in the process of happening because GM has the broadest line-up of non-gas cars coming to market - ethanol, electric, and hydrogen fuelled vehicles as the company places bets on a broad range of technologies waiting to see which wins the development race). But this is a major move because Wintel (Windows OS used on INtel PCs)has been the rock solid monopoly on the PC desktop for the past 16 years.

What could cause Intel to reject Microsoft's latest version of Windows ?

Well here is the word, via the New York Times, straight from the Intel evaluator's mouth:
"the company made its decision after a lengthy analysis by its internal technology staff of the costs and potential benefits of moving to Windows Vista, which has drawn fire from many customers as a buggy, bloated program that requires costly hardware upgrades to run smoothly....This isn’t a matter of dissing Microsoft, but Intel information technology staff just found no compelling case for adopting Vista". And of course Intel is not alone, only about 25% of corporate shops use of Windows Vista despite it being in the market for over a year and half.

Despite this verdict, or maybe because of it, Microsoft went ahead this week and announced that their older but faster, more efficient, and less resource hungry Windows XP would be discontinued despite hundreds of thousands of petitions not to have XP discontinued. Talk about "responding to our customers wishes" ....
