Andrew Sullivan

Andrew Sullivan is a prolific columnist for Time magazine. He is British by background but lives in the USA. He is Catholic and he is gay. He also is a steadfast conservative and supporter of the Republican party. The latter may be saying that is a mixed blessing of late; but Andrew is a staunch, pit bull conservative - less government is better . So the GOP will have to contend with Andrew because he is in thick with the GOP's declared directions/manifesto.

Andrew also is one of the most profuse and profound writers on the current economic and political scene. In his blog he puts out daily huge quantities of material and dialogs that are frankly refreshing and candid. Given that deluge here is an Andrew opinion that is worth repeating before it gets lost in the stream of political consciousness.

....We have to rely on China to deal with North Korea; and no stability in Iraq is possible without the Iranians, Saudis, Syrians and, perhaps most critically, Jordan. Zelikow gets this. So does Rice, I think. Cheney and Rumsfeld stand in the way, as they did at the beginning. And I've become convinced that the only way to dispense with Rumsfeld and neutralize Cheney is a big Democratic victory next Tuesday. So if you want to make the necessary hard choices in Iraq, you know what to do next Tuesday.

Now remember, this man advocated for and defended like NYTimes David Brooks, Bush and the Republican party for most of the past 8 years. Bush and Rove are out to prove that in politics you can fool most of the people most of the time by playing conmen on messy, gut issues that should require tact and careful consideration (think gay rights, gun control, separation of church and state, abortion rights, etc). The midterm elections will tell the tale of exactly what type of democracy Bush and company were trying to bring to Iraq and the Middle East.
